One problem I find when dealing with ants is the fact that they seem to just appear on your kitchen counter top or the ants appear in the bathroom, and finding their source becomes a problem. One method I use is sprinkling some advance ant bait granule or a little sugar and watch where the ant takes the bait to. This can help with more effective bait placements or the use of a good crack and crevice treatment.

Ants crawling around in your kitchen? Want to get rid of them in a hurry? My advice would be to be ready for a battle. Don't grab for a can of Raid, but rather, a can of the new "Phantom" in a can would be my suggestion. Phantom is a powerful tool in the battle of the bug. My next word of advice would be to pick up some dual choice ant bait stations and place them in the areas you were noticing the ants in the first place. Now it's time to go on the offensive. Phantom and Termidor are both fantastic products to knock down a trail of ants. These chemicals are non-repellent and work in a sneaky manor. The ants walk right over the chemical and good bye ants. Incorporating a good sugar based bait like maxforce ant gel works wonders and the granule baits like Advance ant bait works well also. These are professional products that can be found online, but similar products can be found at your local home store. The trick to any control is using enough product. Put out many many ant baits, put out plenty of placements of gel baits, don't be afraid to use too much. The biggest thing is safety. Pets and children need to be thought of first and foremost. Use caution. Now kill the ants.

Controlling ants can be one of the most aggravating things to try to accomplish every...but it can be done. With all of these products out there why is it so hard to get rid of them? Mostly because there are such great numbers, people misapply products or they start the control too late. So be diligent and generous in your treatments and as always, use caution and keep safety first.

I've been in the pest control industry now for 16 years and killing ants can be either one of the easiest tasks or the hardest tasks to deal with, considering which kind of ant you are dealing with. There are right ways and wrong ways of ant control and many times homeowners, while trying to be over zealous, do things the wrong way. First of all...don't ever use ant sprays and ant baits in the same areas. I am a big believer of ant baits anyway. If you are faced with a boat load of ants on your counter tops then take a damp paper towel and wipe them up. This will take care of a good amount of what is there now and give you time to place some effective ant baits. You can approach this two ways...as an ant commando...or as an ant spot specific agent. The first way would include a total program. I would get some good granule maxforce or advance ant bait and sprinkle it around the outside perimeter of the home, being careful of children and pets. Then on the inside I would use some ant gel baits along with some ant bait stations in the area you originally experienced the ant problem. The reason I am against spraying is because it often time leaves an oily residue and it also will repel the ants. The goal of the baits is to get them to bring this bait back to the nest and cause a longer lasting control. Ant baits can be bought at your local home store or you can often time order professional ant bait online via a do it yourself pest control supply website. Happy hunting and good luck.

HOW: Getting rid of ants in the home requires patience and trusting. I almost never recommend spraying for ants inside, especially if you are not exactly sure what ant you are dealing with. Baiting is the way to go. Products like Terro is a great sugar based bait. Another good bait that I recommend is Advance Dual Choice. Maxforce ant gel is another good one. When placing out bait, be generous and use caution if there are children and pets present.
Baits that professionals use can be bought on the Internet these days. Any online do it yourself pest control products website is a good start. You can always try your local hardware store, but if you are looking for the stuff the pros use I would go the route of ordering online. Maxforce and Advance are two professional names to look for.

Get Rid Of Ants Quickly

So what is the best was to get rid of ants in your kitchen or other areas of your home? First thing you want to do is look at why you could possibly be attracting the ants inside. Do you have children who like to drip grape juice on the floor or do you drop cake crumbs from lunch on the floor? If this is the case then you have to use some IPM or Integrated Pest Management and keep your area clean to make your kitchen unattractive to the ants.
Now you want to purchase some granule ant bait, a good perimeter spray, and some ant trap bait stations. Some of the products that work well are featured in an earlier article of mine rightfully called, Kill Ants, where you can get some ideas.
Outside is a good place to start your investigation. Do you see any ant trails? Are they entering your home from a crack? If so then you will want to take a good sprinkle of your ant granules a spread where the ants are trailing. Also a good ant gel is a good choice to place around the ant trail. I feel baiting is a better long term solution. Don't expect the ants to go away over night, but your should start to see results. Inside you should also use the same technique. If you see ants then place out baits. As always use caution around kids and animals.
Some people like a more direct approach with a ban out and up the perimeter of the home. If you choose the spray route, then be sure to use a good non-repellent like Phantom or Termidor. Being a good detective and having an eagle eye will improve your results. Good luck!

If you are having a problem with ants in your home, as this is the time of year they will start to become a pest again, then you will want to treat the outside along with the inside. Many times you can locate an actual "ant trail" leading from the soil, up your outside wall, and into a crack. Sealing this crack will be a big help. If you can't be that lucky, then you will want to get a good ant granule bait and sprinkle it liberally along the outside perimeter of your home. This will help to cut the ants off a the pass and help with your inside pest control program. Advance ant granules are the best for this purpose. Maxforce also has a good granule.

All The Little Ants Go Marching

It's that time of year when the summer bugs start to wake up and make their way into the kitchens of the world in search of food. The most common kitchen critter is the ant. Big ants, little ants, black ants, red ants, it does not matter how they come, we just don't wan them here.
If you got them then I would suggest buying a good sugar based ant bait gel from your local home improvement store or do it yourself pest control website. Place button sized smears on a piece of cardboard and place it out on the counter where you are finding the ants. Some people will cut straws up into two inch pieces and squeeze the bait into that. This is just to keep your counter from getting sticky. As always, if you have children or pets, be extra cautious or look for another way to treat them.

Ants in the kitchen

A few more weeks and the warm spring weather will be waking up the flowers and the trees and all the creatures that crawl. Ants being on of these creatures will often be seen in the kitchens of America looking for a sweet treat to start their summer time routine. The best way to avoid this problem is keeping the kitchen clean and spills wiped up. If a clean kitchen is not working then you have to find a good ant spray. I think putting down a good perimeter spray in the kitchen is most effective for ants because the results are often times faster than placing baits down. Problem is the best ant sprays are not always available to the public. The best ant spray out there is a product called Phantom that is a non-repellent chemical that the ants unknowingly walk over and bring the chemical back to the nest killing off others in a domino effect. This chemical is usually available only to professional pest controllers, but I've seen it for sale on several do it yourself pest control products websites. Reading the label is important when using this product. A good crack and crevice application works best. Incorporate a baiting program and you will have a good one two punch. I think Dupont's Advion ant Bait is best to use.

Ants and Roaches and Bees...Oh My

I was walking home from work today up the street and noticed a trail of ants crossing the pavement. It got me thinking about how many species of ants there actually are. Leave it to a pest control guy to think of something crazy like that. It turns out there is over twelve thousand species of ants, over four thousand five hundred species of roaches and twenty thousand species of bees! Yikes. That's alot of insect species and only 3 different kinds. If we were to count up how many total species of insects there were in the world it would be over one million! That's what keeps pest control people like me in business.

Baiting for ants

A good baiting program starts with identification of the ant and choosing a good ant bait. Maxforce ant gels are a good choice for a variety of ants including carpenter ants. If you are noticing ants in a particular area it is important to place the baits out in the area they are frequenting. There are a variety of bait dispensers that work well for ant control to place the baits right out in the area the ants are. The Ant Cafe comes to mind for this reason. You don't want to just place gel bait right out on your counter, so you can place it in this dispenser and it keeps the bait available for the ants. If you are lucky enough to find the trail then place the baits right in the trail itself. Bait stations are another good product. Advance Dual Choice is the best ant bait station in my opinion because I've always had good success with that particular product. FMC used to have a good ant bait station but I think it is no longer available. It is important again to place the ant bait station right out in the area you are seeing the ants to make the bait available to them. I have to stress with any baiting program to use caution if there are any children or pets present in the home or around the area you are baiting. If children are present there are tamper proof bait stations that you can find to keep the baits out of reach of children and animals. One thing I should stress is if you are baiting, don't be stingy! Use plenty of bait and be generous so the ants will eat and if possible place out a variety of baits because ants are very finicky and like variety.

Big Black Ants

Have you had the unpleasant surprise of looking down at your counter top or bathroom floor to find big black ants crawling around? I'm not talking about your regular run of the mill sugar ant, I'm talking about the kind of ant that you could ride to and from work. These ants are most likely carpenter ants and seeing them may or may not be that big of a deal. You'll have to ask yourself some questions to see if they are in fact infesting a part of your property because if this is the case they can do some damage as they are considered a wood destroying insect. First of all have you had a leak in your bathroom, kitchen, or any part of your home recently or within the past year? If the answer is yes then these ants may have found the damp wood and started to excavate a home somewhere in the wood surrounding the moisture. If the answer is no then you have to ask if you have noticed anything that looks like saw dust piles anywhere inside the home? Around window frames or door jambs would be good places to look, but they could appear anywhere. If the answer is yes then you may have an infestation in the home. If not then you have to ask if you have any tree limbs hanging on your home or roof, or if you have had any tree work down around your home lately? The ants you see could just be occasional invaders coming in for a snack. If there has been trees disturbed or cut down then a nest could have been stirred up and the ants have scurried finding their way into your home. A simple perimeter treatment inside and out should start to alleviate the problem. Also cut back any branches hanging on your home. IF the infestation is in fact in your home then you may need to hire a professional to pinpoint the nest and treat it directly, as this will be the only way to eliminate it from the home. Also consider the time of day you see the ants. Usually these ants are most active at night. If you are seeing them walking in a trail in your home when it is dark outside then they might be infesting your home. A good way to get an idea as to where they are infesting is to give a piece of sugar or food to the ant, when it picks it up it will bring in right back to the nest. If he disappears under a certain part of the molding or floor board then that could be a good place to start looking.

So what are the products working out there for ant control these days? What's new on the market? Ant control has always been about colony elimination and some of the best products to use are the non-repellent chemistry out there like Phantom or Termidor. These chemicals allow the ants to continue on their path and pick up a lethal dose of the chemical, bringing back to the nest and getting control. New this year in the bait market is Dupont's Ant Bait Arena. Some of the old standbys are Maxforce Ant bait. The maxforce products come in granule form, bait station form, and gel bait. The gel bait works very well and Maxforce also carries a carpenter ant gel which works very well. Whitmire also carries a great line of ant control products. Dual Choice Ant Bait is one of them. Dual Choice offers two baits in one station and I personally have had great success with this product in the past. There is also a granule ant bait and Whitmire also has a granule carpenter ant bait as well. Some other ant baits include Intice and Uncle Alberts Gourmet Ant Bait. Terro Ant Bait is also very good for sugar feeding ants as well as the Drax products. Drax comes in both sugar feeding and protein cartridges and one cartridge that has both. Ants are fickle feeders and will only feed on sugars or proteins depending on their needs which is why they can be hard to control. One very important thing to remember when baiting or using a non-repellent chemistry spray is to not use any other kind of chemical. If you are baiting then do not use any kind of Raid or Dursban or any chemical that will kill the ants too fast or repel them because you will be cancelling the whole bait effect. If you are spraying with Termidor or Phantom use a dedicated sprayer....not the same sprayer you use for other products as it could lessen or cancel the non repellent effect. Good luck. Ants and their control

Tis the season when it comes to ants and their unwanted advances into the human world. So what's their deal and how to we get rid of them? Well spring time is when these little buggers start to develop their colony. The ants you see now are out foraging for protein to feed the little ones and keep the egg factory running smoothly. As spring continues on and the warm days give into the hot days of summer, the ants appetite turns from proteins to sweets. Ants are busy beavers and the sugar gives them a boost just as it does to humans. You can see an interesting development here. Ants are picky eaters at different times of the year. SO if you have ants crawling on your stove and you go to Home Depot and put out any old ant trap you find then chances are you won't get the control you want. Read the bait label of the baits you buy and make sure it is for sweet and protein feeding ants. There is a fantastic product out there called Advance Dual Choice that takes care of both and works very well. Bait placements and choice factor into ant control far more than you think. I advise to mix it up with dry baits and gel baits and on the outside use bait granules. Place the baits where the ants are hanging out. If they are around you sink them place the gel bait behind the splash boards if possible. Never put bait where animals or children can get to it. How about sprays you ask? Just a quick fix. Baiting it's the way to go. Don't be afraid to use too much bait and place them in the trails the ants are traveling because they leave pheromone trails and other ants will surely be following right behind and it is then they will find their pot of gold and take the bait.

Don't wait until further into the spring or summer when the ants are at their strongest numbers. Treating for ants outside should be your plan of attack! Most home improvement stores or even your local hardware stores should have granule products that you can place out for ants in the form of bait or insecticide. You want to place a band of about a foot or two around your entire home perimeter according to the label. Many do it yourself online stores carry different kinds of baits or granules you can buy. Remember! If you have pets or young children you must use caution. Maybe buy bait stations to put the bait in an forget about the granule insecticide. So long as you start to do something now you should have at least a much less battle if they do get into the home.
